Hello All,

I'm following the excellent HowTo at:
http://workaround.org/articles/ispmail-etch/

I've had good success so far. I have mail working just fine, and can
send and receive mail from the outside world using mutt from the
command line. However, when I telnet to the smtp to authenticate
users, I get this error when I invoke the "auth plain" command:

538 5.7.0 Encryption required for requested authentication mechanism

This does not throw any message/error to any of the logs in /var/log

I have the latest version of openssl insalled (using apt-get install) . . .

I don't quite understand what the error message is telling me -- any
help would be much appreciated.

Thanks again,
Christopher Deckard
