Losing on of the physical volumes is of course bad. In such a JBOD
(just-a-bunch-of-disks) scenario the loss of one physical volume means
losing the whole volume group unless you have exact knowledge where the
data is located. There is a chance you can use "pvmove" to move away
from the broken disk but I have never tried that. Nothing can replace a
good hardware RAID-1 controller. :)

Sorry, that wasn't clear. No, he was found guilty of murdering his wife.
He's still alive and in Mule Creek State Prison in California and might
be kept there for a few decades.
