My first contact was quite accidentally when I heard of Javascript frameworks for the first time. There was a web project on my table. Of course the project was already overdue the day it was started so I barely had any time playing with Javascript frameworks. Back then I was pretty inexperienced and compared jQuery to ExtJS which is worse than apples vesus oranges. (Unfortunately I even blogged about that while I was in a hurry which made me look like a total jerk.
jQuery is possibly the most widely used Javascript library to enhance web sites. It is simple to use but very powerful and extensible by the means of countless plugins. jQuery UI (=user interface) is an extension to jQuery providing a set of useful widgets like draggables, windows, progress bars, silders, datepickers and tabs. This article review the "jQuery UI 1.6" book written by Dan Wellman and published by Packt Publishing who kindly sent me a review copy. (I'm very late with my review. Meanwhile Packt has published a book on version 1.7.)
Drupal is a fabulous open source content management system for maintaining a web site. It has a large pool of additional software to support it. With Drupal you can create many kinds of websites from your personal homepage with a blog and forum to a complex corporate web site with an online shop. This article reviews the "Drupal 6 Themes" book written by Ric Shreves and published by Packt Publishing who sent me a review copy.
